500 VOLUNTEERS FROM 17 COUNTRIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ASIA UNITY CONVOY TO GAZA

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- About 500 volunteers from 17 countries,
including Malaysia, will participate in the Asia Unity Convoy to Gaza in
December to help the Palestinians there.

Secretary-general of the Malaysian Islamic Organisations Consultative Council
(MAPIM), Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, said the convoy would leave India by land on Dec
2 and would pass through 18 towns in Pakistan, Iran and Turkey before continuing
their journey by sea to Gaza on Dec 26.

He said the convoy would be organised by the Asian People Solidarity for
Palestine (APSP), comprising various non-governmental organisations, trade
unions and public institutions in Asia.

Malaysia would be represented by at least 15 people, he said in a statement here
Monday.

He said those keen to participate in the convoy should contact MAPIM.
