India, USA to enter into bilateral aviation safety pact

New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) India and United States are in
the process of entering into a bilateral aviation safety pact,
an official statement said here Monday.
"The Government of India and USA are in the process of
entering into Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA) which
would eventually lead to mutual acceptance of aeronautical
products/parts developed in either country," it added.
Some preparatory work like a review of the Directorate
General of Civil Aviation in eleven areas has been conducted
recently by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
A shadow certification project where the DGCA carried
out actual work and the FAA reviewed was also conducted.
"The six-member FAA team observed that the DGCA has a
very sound aircraft certification system in place commensurate
with the rules, regulations, working procedures," the
statement said, adding that the FAA team was satisfied with
the review conducted by them
