India-Bangladesh come together on Vijaya Dashami

Taki (WB), Oct 18 (PTI) The Indo-Bangladesh border
disappeared as thousands of people from both countries in a
spirit of bonhomie shared their culture on the Ichamati river
in hundreds of boats, near here, on the occasion of Vijaya
Dashami.
The BSF and Bangladesh Rifles personnel, who guard the
international borders in the river on speed boats, allow
people from both sides to come together on its waters without
passports and witness immersion of Goddess Durga every year.
Touching down on each other lands at Taki in North 24
Parganas district in India and Sripur in Satkhira district in
Bangladesh is also allowed, though for a few minutes only, a
visiting PTI correspondent witnessed.
Thousands of people carrying their countries' flags threw
candies, toffees, fruits and even coins to one another amidst
the rolling of the 'dhaks' (drum) and chugging of motor-boats.
The boats from Bangladesh, carrying the deep green and
red flag of the country were almost always more crowded than
those from India and the number of women were only a few.
Popular music revelled thousands of people lining up
along the river bank on both sides.
