FAMILY INSTITUTION NEEDS TO BE STRENGTHENED: RAJA DR NAZRIN

IPOH (Perak, Malaysia), Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The Crown Prince of Perak, Raja Dr
Nazrin Shah, said Monday the family institution needs to be strengthened because
the current trend shows that there is a decay in moral values and weakening of
the institution.

He said proper moral values and a strengthening of the family institution were
important criteria emphasised by Islam and practised in the Malay customs.

"At the same time, the young generation must be assisted to expand their
potentials in a constructive and productive manner. Communication between the
various generations must be simplified and expanded so that the communication
gap can be narrowed down.

"Acceptance of the role of women in the modern era must be
understood...society must accept the reality of the development achieved by women
and the increasing significance of their role today, a shift in the traditional role
as wife and mother to a role that has proven their potentials and capabilities," he
said when opening the 173rd Conference of the northern state of Perak Islamic
Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIAMP), here.

He said women were becoming more capable in discharging more important
responsibilities in various professions.
