5TH ISLAMIC CONFERENCE ENDORSES 20 ITEMS OF KL DECLARATION 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The Fifth Islamic Conference of Ministers of
Higher Education and Scientific Research (ICMHESR) endorsed 20 items of the
Kuala Lumpur Declaration 2010.

Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the items included a need
to adopt Key Performance Indicators (KPI) by universities in the Islamic world,
and the adoption of new and emerging technologies.

"We have agreed on prospective strategies for an educational, scientific,
cultural and communication resurgence in the Islamic world. Several strategies,
together with their implementation mechanisms, have been delineated," he said in
his speech at the closing ceremony of the conference at the Kuala Lumpur
Convention Centre here Wednesday.

He added that a larger and more formal Organisation of the Islamic
Conference (OIC)-wide student mobility programme should be planned and
implemented by the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation aimed at building a strong network among youth and future leaders/OIC members in various fields, including science, technology and engineering.

The sixth ICMHESR will be held in Sudan in 2012.
