SPAIN WINS CLIMBATHON, BUT ITALY TAKES HOME WORLD SERIES TITLE

KUNDASANG (Malaysia), Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Italy's Emanuela Brizio took home
the women's title of the 2010 Skyrunners World Series, collecting 381 points,
after the final leg of the series concluded at the TM International Climbathon,
here Saturday.

Despite finishing third in the race up and down Mount Kinabalu, Brizio
collected enough points to bring home the trophy.

Spain's Nuria Picas Albet won the race with the time of three hours, 28
minutes and seven seconds.

Brizio clocked 3:34.22s while New Zealand's Anna Fros finished second with
3:33.41s.

Fros also finished second overall in the series with 373 points, ahead of
Italy's Cecilia Mora with 352 points.

Met by reporters, Albet, 33, a firefighter, said she never expected to win,
especially since Brizio was a defending champion and leading in the series.

"Emanuela and Anna were so strong and fast. I didn't think I could beat
them," she said.

Malaysia's Danny Kuilin Gongot finished the race in 3:47.23s.

The men's category will take place Sunday.
