PILGRIMS ALLOWED TO USE AL-MASHAIR TRAIN ONLY ON AL-TARWIYAH DAY
MECCA, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Pilgrims will be allowed to use the Al-Mashair Train, only on the day of 'Al-Tarwiyah', the day when they sacrifice animals, according to Ministry of Haj Assistant Dr Sahal Al-Saban.
Dr Sahal was today quoted by the Saudi Gazette, the local newspaper, that when pilgrims descended from Mount Arafat to Muzdalifa, the train would then only be used by targeted groups, including domestic pilgrims and those coming from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and travelling by land.
The Saudi Gazette said, according to a report in the Al-Madina newspaper, the
train was expected to significantly reduce the number of cars heading to the holy shrines.
It said, only those with authorised haj permits would be allowed to enter the stations and adjoining areas.
Meanwhile, the ministry has approved 25 new locations for haj pilgrim firms which were forced to move to make way for the Holy Sites Train. The firms serve domestic pilgrims.
Dr Sahal said the Holy Sites Train stations at domestic pilgrim haj camps were ready.
The projects which pilgrims would be able to use in this year's haj are the train and shuttle trips serving Turkish pilgrims and pilgrims coming from Europe, Australia, America and Asia, he said.
He added that 750,000 pilgrims would be transported by the shuttles, up from 500,000 in last year's haj.
