NATIONAL-LEVEL DEEPAVALI CELEBRATION IN NORTHERN STATE
PORT DICKSON (Malaysia), Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The national-level Deepavali celebration will be held in Sungai Petani in northern state of Kedah, on Nov 13, Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim.
He said the location for the celebration was purposely planned away from major town areas as part of the strategy to bring leaders closer to the ordinary people.
Various programmes, including cultural performances, will be held to promote the 1Malaysia spirit among the people of all races, he told reporters at a Deepavali carnival organised by the Telok Kemang MIC, in this southern district on Sunday.
Rais said there was no need to hold such a festival at the stadium and have the programme to be filled with speeches by leaders.
