50 PER CENT OF MALAYSIAN PILGRIMS IN HOLY LAND

MECCA, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- About half of the 26,000 Malaysian pilgrims to perform their haj this year, are already in the Holy Land.

There are three more weeks to the grand assembly day in Arafah on Nov 15.

According to the deputy head of the Malaysian haj pilgrims delegation, Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman, there would be a rapid increase in arrivals when the direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah begin Sunday.

He said those who arrived in Jeddah would be transported directly to Mecca while those who arrived earlier in Madinah and stayed there for eight days, would also be travelling to the holy city of Mecca.

"About 40 per cent of those who had arrived in Madinah earlier, would also be travelling to Mecca," Syed Saleh told the Pilgrims' Board media team based in Hotel Al Janadriah here Sunday.

He said each group of the Malaysian pilgrims who arrived in Mecca would be given a briefing on the important aspects of the haj and umrah practices while in the Holy Land, and would be guided how to go to the holy mosque.
