INSTITUTE TO IMPROVE HISTORY CLASSES

JITRA (Kedah, Malaysia), Oct 26 (Bernama) -- IPG, the Teachers Training
Institute, is to focus on improving the teaching of history and attracting
greater interest in the subject.

IPG Rector Dr Haili Dolhan said the institute is duty-bound to train teachers to
impart knowledge effectively.

"Teachers must attract students to history not just by relating facts but also
by making think about past happenings and analyse their causes," he said.

By the time they end their schooling, students should understand the
constitution and system of government, and have love for the country and people,
he told reporters after opening a seminar on teacher training at the IPG Darul
Aman campus in this northern district Tuesday.

Noting that history has been made compulsory for all students, Haili said the
institute will give added emphasis to training teachers to be effective on the
subject.

"Other countries too are placing importance on the subject because it is from
learning history that students understand their place in a country and the
struggles of others before them," he added.
