CWG: PM doesn't feel his office should have intervened earlier

On Board PM's Special Aircraft, Oct 30 (PTI)
Notwithstanding the mess surrounding Commonwealth Games,
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday disagreed with
the suggestion that he or his office should have intervened
earlier to get things going saying such actions would not be
good for the system.
"After the event, anybody can find fault but I don't
think it will be good for the system if everything is to be
handled by the Prime Minister or his office," he told
reporters.
He was responding to questions on the Commonwealth Games
mess which had tarnished India's image and whether he felt in
the hindsight that he should have intervened earlier than he
did.
"The country has good instrumentalities, ministers and
other institutions with specific responsibilities. They should
be entrusted with the task of accomplishing the task," he
said.
Singh's comments came against the backdrop of the
last-minute intervention of the PMO to set right the
organisation of the Games which attracted criticism for tardy
preparation. PTI AKK
