OFFICIAL WELCOME FOR AUSSIE PM
PUTRAJAYA, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who arrived Sunday night for a two-day visit to Malaysia, was accorded an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Square here Monday.
She was greeted by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife, Noorainee Abdul Rahman.
After the national anthems of Australia and Malaysia were played, Gillard inspected a guard-of-honour and was introduced to Cabinet ministers, senior government officers and foreign diplomats.
This is Gillard's maiden visit to the region after becoming Australia's first woman prime minister in June. She was accompanied by her partner Tim Mathieson.
