PAKISTAN SEEKS HELP FROM M'SIAN CONSTRUCTORS TO REBUILD COUNTRY
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Pakistan has called on the Malaysian
construction and housing sectors to help in its rehabilitation programme after
its infrastructure was devastated by massive floods recently.
The call came from Masood Khalid, Pakistan's High Commissioner to Malaysia, in a
statement Monday following receipt of 850,000 rupees (about RM30,700) from AEON
Malaysia's Managing Director, Nagahisa Oyama, here. (US$1=RM3.09)
The money was collected from the "Pakistan Flood Victims Charity Campaign"
undertaken by the management and employees of AEON Malaysia which operates the
Jusco department stores in Malaysia.
Masood said Pakistan was now focusing on the reconstruction and
rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure and houses which required the help of the
international community, including Malaysia.
He urged the Malaysian construction and housing sectors to come forward and help
in the rebuilding of roads, highways, bridges, schools, hospitals and two
million houses.
Malaysians have so far contributed 11.69 million rupees (about RM422,181) to the
Prime Minister’s Relief Fund of Pakistan in aid of flood victims in that
country.
In addition, the Malaysian government had donated US$1 million (about RM3.1
million), and the Malaysian Palm Oil Council 39.90 million rupees (about RM14.41
million). The Association of Spouses of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (BAKTI)
had sent relief goods worth about 46 million rupees (about RM1.66 million) to
Pakistan.
