Hotline between PMs of India, China to be operational soon
New Delhi, Nov 1 (PTI) A hotline between India and China
will soon become operational.
This was stated by Indian External Affairs Minister S M
Krishna on Monday as he emphasised the need for "better
communication" and "more understanding" to resolve differences
between the two countries.
An agreement to establish the hotline was reached during
Krishna's visit to Beijing in April.
The proposal was first put forward during Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh's meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao in
Yekaterinburg in Russia in June last year.
Krishna, who was addressing a seminar on India-China
relations, said that, besides the hotline, he would suggest
that Indian and Chinese leadership at all levels in the
government and amongst political parties should meet
frequently to "boost trust and understanding".
A number of dialogues and forums already exist between
India and China that need to keep meeting regularly and
productively, he said,
"Regular meetings lead to better communication, more
understanding and strengthen confidence," he said, adding "I
would, therefore, strongly encourage an intensive and
sustained engagement between the two systems."
