VIENTIANE,NOV.01 (KPL) The Lao Handicraft Festival 2010 drew over 200 producers around the country. The event is being held on November 1-5 at the International Trade Exhibition and Convention Centre (ITECC), Vientiane Capital.
It is organized by the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Lao Handicraft Association.
The opening ceremony of the 9th Lao Handicraft Festival drew the participation of Standing Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad.
“This year exhibition is being held amid the celebration of Vientiane’s 450th anniversary and the 35th anniversary of the Lao PDR as well as the 90th birthday of late president Kaysone Phomvihane,” said President of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Kitsana Vongsay.
“This exhibition provides opportunities to sellers and buyers to meet each other and exchange points of view on business issues and the development of handicraft quality to meet both local and overseas markets,” said Mr. Kitsana.
“In the past handicraft production was substitute job but now it is main job for many Lao people. I hope the government will support and promote the handicraft as a parallel heritage for the Lao people,” said Mr. Kitsana.
On display and for sale were handicrafts made of silk, cotton, rattan, wood, silver, traditional food, wood furniture and pottery.
Handicraft production demonstration, the best handicraft and souvenir competition, fashion show of the Lao traditional clothes and the Lao silk products and Japan Kimono fashion show are being also held coincidentally with the
