M`SIA CAN BE ON PAR WITH ADVANCED NATIONS IN STARTING A BUSINESS, SAYS PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has all the "attributes" to be on par
with advanced nations to start a business taking into consideration the
initiatives implemented under the second phase of the Malaysian Corporate
Identity (MyCoID), said Prime Minister Najib Razak.
He said the system would provide a positive impact in boosting Malaysia's
competitiveness at the global level and improve the country's standing in the
World Bank's evaluation with regard to starting a business.
"With the implementation of the MyCoID second phase, to start a business only
needs a process in a day as compared with nine processes in 11 days previously
which placed Malaysia in 23rd spot from 183 countries in the world.
"The initiatives render Malaysia to be equal with New Zealand in the first spot.
Assuming that there are no changes in other countries, the improvements made can
thrust Malaysia into 17th placing, which is a very big change," he said in his
speech when launching the second phase of MyCoID.
The text of his speech was read out by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and
Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Najib said the initiatives were important as they served as the catalyst for
entrepreneurship growth and private sector investments which were indeed crucial
to attain developed nation status and to emerge as a high-income nation by 2020.
The prime minister also said the government aimed to prop up Malaysia to the top
10 nation to do business with ease by the end of the 10th Malaysia Plan.
"However, it is not as easy as expected as other countries will also carry out
continuous improvements in diverse aspects.
"This is why I always say to be a developed nation, we must always be in the
forefront of change, while to remain in front we need to lead changes," he said.
MyCoID is an access for the public to start a business by surfing a portal
website and register on-line by entering the reference number.
The information will be automatically and simultaneously fed to Companies
Commission of Malaysia; Inland Revenue Board; Employees Provident Fund; Social
Security Organisation; Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad; and SME Corp.
The government's initiative received encouraging response from the people who
conducted 53,575 transactions between Feb 11 and Oct 25.
Najib said the MyCOID system fulfilled the fourth strategy of the 2011 Budget to
enhance public delivery system.
He said RM3.5 million has been allocated to expand the system to ministries and
government agencies in addition to RM6.9 million approved early this year.
(US$1=RM3.08)
The prime minister hoped the MyCoID initiative would be expanded and adopted by
more ministries and government agencies to realise the goal of upgrading public
delivery system to the people from all walks of life.
