SCHOOLCHILDREN WILL GET SPORTS APPAREL ASSISTANCE - MINISTER

GUA MUSANG (Kelantan, Malaysia), Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Schoolchildren will be given
assistance in terms of sports apparel in line with the "one student, one sport"
policy that will be implemented next year, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin
Yassin.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the assistance was possible
because of the concern Prime Minister Najib Razak had for schoolchildren.

"He raised this issue at Cabinet meetings and told me that the funds for this
assistance was available from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) under its
corporate social responsibility initiative.

"At the Education Ministry level, we proposed that eligible students be supplied
with a T-shirt and track bottom to enable them to be active in sports," he told
reporters after attending a "meet-the-people" here Wednesday.

Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed and
Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

Muhyiddin added that the assistance would be implemented in stages beginning
with primary schools.
