PASSENGERS ON TROUBLED QANTAS FLIGHT SAFE

By Zakaria Abdul Wahab

SINGAPORE, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- All 469 passengers and crew of the
Sydney-bound A380 Qantas plane which made an emergency landing at Changi Airport
this morning, disembarked safely.

A spokesman of Changi Airport Group, the airport operator, said buses were
arranged to ferry them from the plane which was parked at Runway 2 to the
airport terminal.

The Qantas flight QF 32, bound for Sydney, Australia, departed Singapore Changi
Airport at 9.56am, but due to technical reasons, the aircraft returned to Changi
and landed safely at 11.46am.

Six fire engines were rushed onto the runway after the plane landed, said the
spokesman, adding it was in accordance with standard operating procedure for
such incidents.

In response to the pilot's request, checks were conducted on the aircraft by an
emergency service team.

Upon completion of the checks, passengers and crew began disembarking from the
aircraft until it was over by 1.40pm.

Runway 2, which has remained closed since the landing, will re-open later Thursday.

Flights have continued to take off and land at Runway 1 and operations at Changi
have, otherwise, not been affected, said the spokesman.
