MALAYSIANS JOIN IN AS AMERICA CELEBRATES DEEPAVALI

NEW YORK, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysians in the United States joined in as America celebrates Deepavali or Diwali, as it is known here in accordance with the moniker used by the growing Indian diaspora.

Many Malaysians have been seen at a number of events organised here by both
Americans and Indians to mark the Diwali festival, one of them was a
dinner-reception hosted Thursday night by Indian permanent representative to the
United Nations, Hardeep Singh Puri.

Malaysian permanent representative to the United Nations, Hamidon Ali, was among
the those spotted at the event.

A Malaysian from Penang, R. Kuppuswamy, said: "It's a wonderful experience
seeing this huge spread of Indian delicacies."

The reception was well attended by the diplomatic community here including UN
secretary general Ban Ki-moon and wife.
