EMIR OF MECCA DESCRIBES HOLY SITE PROJECTS A SUCCESS

MECCA, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- The Emir of Mecca, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, has described the holy site projects as a resounding success.

The Saudi Gazette, a local newspaper, Sunday quoted Prince Khaled as saying this when he was on a tour Saturday.

It reported that the Emir, who is also chairman of both the Central Haj Committee and Higher Commission for Monitoring the Transportation of Pilgrims, said this year's huge projects were accomplished to benefit citizens and expatriates.

Among the most important projects carried out was the Holy Sites Train Project.

Even though it will only operate at 30 per cent of its capacity, it will have a major effect on services for pilgrims.

The final stage of the Jamarat Bridge was completed, as well as the rainwater and floodwater drainage projects in Mecca and the holy sites which were effective in draining away recent rainfall, the newspaper quoted Prince Khaled.

He said this was an indication of the success of the projects. Among the completed initiatives is the air ambulance project of the Red Crescent Authority in the Kingdom.

He hoped all pilgrims would cooperate by not squatting or sleeping outdoors and that the concerned government agencies would find an effective solution.
