AUSTRIAN PRESIDENT VISITS MELAKA HISTORICAL CITY
MELAKA, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- Austrian President Dr Heinz Fischer, who is on a
three-day visit to Malaysia, visited Melaka Historical City, here Monday
afternoon.
Dr Fischer and his wife, Margit Fisher, were greeted on arrival at 1.45pm by
southern state of Melaka Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam and wife, Asmah Abd
Rahman, at a hotel in Bandar Hilir, here.
Also present was Works Minister, Shaziman Abu Mansor, as
minister-in-attendance.
After a luncheon hosted by the state government, Dr Fischer and Mohd Ali and the
Austrian delegation proceeded to the Melaka Sultanate Museum, located next to
the hotel where Dr Fischer was staying, on trishaws.
Subsequently, they visited the Menara Taming Sari, a 110-metre tall
observation tower in Bandar Hilir to look at the beauty of Melaka City which was
recognised as a World Heritage Site (WHS) by the United Nations Educational, Science
and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
The delegation later visited the Sri Poyyatta Vinayagar Moorthi Temple, Kampung
Kling Mosque and Cheng Hoon Teng Temple before concluding their visit by taking
a boat ride on Sungai Melaka at Jalan Quayside until Taman Rempah, here.
Dr Fischer and his delegation returned to Kuala Lumpur at 5pm.
