DEADLINE SET FOR FASTENER EXPORTERS AND PRODUCERS SEEKING EC EXEMPTION

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysian exporters/producers of iron or
steel fasteners to the European Union (EU) seeking exemption from registration
with the European Commission (EC) must make the request before Dec 3.

Exemptions can be granted to Malaysian exporters/producers who can prove
they are not related to producers in China and not transhipping certain iron
or steel fasteners from that country, the Ministry of International Trade and
Industry (MITI) said in a statement.

On Oct 28, the EC initiated an investigation into the possible circumvention
of anti-dumping measures on imports of certain iron or steel fasteners
originating from China consigned from Malaysia, it said.

Effective from this date, all imports of certain iron or steel fasteners
from Malaysia must be registered with EC, it added.

Requests for exemption have to be made before Dec 3 to the European
Commission, Directorate General for Trade, Directorate H, N-105 4/92, 1049
