States urged support for UXO clearance in the Lao PDR

VIENTIANE,10.NOV (KPL) - Delegations of the first meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions have expressed concern over unexploded ordnance in Laos, known as the most bombarded nation in the world and called support for the UXO clearance in Laos.
The requests came out in the second day of the First Meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions held in Vientiane on Nov 9-12.
The delegates from over 30 countries exchanged points of view on measures on the interpretation into reality of the UN convention.
The meeting urged states parties to implement the Oslo convention and to accede to the convention to make the world UXO free.
The Vientiane Declaration and Vientiane Action Plan are expected to be adopted at the First Meeting of States Parties to Convention on Cluster Munitions, which is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith.
