UNICEF LAUNCHES "HANDS ARE FOR CARING" ONLINE PHOTO CONTEST

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- The United Nations Children's Fund
(Unicef) today launched an online photo contest as a part of the "Get on Board"
campaign to stop child abuse in Malaysia, besides reinforcing the right of
children to live healthy, happy lives and free of violence.

Unicef's representative to Malaysia Hans Olsen said the contest theme "Hands
are for Caring" was also to highlight that the hands are to guide, nurture and
give comfort to children, and not to hit them.

"We hope this contest will reinforce the message that violence against
children is never okay. Instead of hitting, caning or punching them, we should
manage our anger and use our hands for positive caring actions," he said in a
statement here Wednesday.

The digitally-driven photo contest invites the public to submit their work
that best captures the theme "Hands are for Caring, Not Hitting" by e-mailing
their entries to webkl@unicef.org.

Photos will be published on Unicef Malaysia's Facebook page
(www.facebook.com/unicef.malaysia) on Universal Children's Day on Nov 20 for
online voting which will continue until Nov 30 and the winning photos will be
selected based on the number of 'likes' they receive.
