BEEF SHIPMENT STEPPING STONE TO BOOST PAKISTAN, MALAYSIA HALAL SECTORS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The shipment of the first consignment of
halal meat to Malaysia is a stepping stone for forging long-term
mutually-beneficial ties between halal sectors of Pakistan and Malaysia.

In a statement here Thursday, the Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia,
Masood Khalid, said the shipment by Zenith Associates in Lahore was expected to
arrive here on Nov 29.

"The beef will be available throughout Malaysia via Giant hyper market
outlets," he said.

Masood said the deal commenced after the Malaysian Department of Veterinary
Services approved an abattoir and processing plant of Pakistan for export of the
beef to Malaysia.

"This has opened up a formal channel for export of meat from Pakistan to
Malaysia," he said.

Pakistan and Malaysia had also signed two memoranda of understandings and a
letter of intent to promote halal business.
