TWO NIGERIAN DETAINEES GIVE AUTHORITIES THE SLIP IN KLIA
PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Two Nigerian men, who were scheduled to have
been deported yesterday, escaped enroute to the KL International Airport (KLIA)
in Sepang.
Home Ministry Secretary-General Mahmood Adam said the duo escaped
about 11.30pm while being taken from the KLIA immigration detention depot where
they were detained for misuse of student pass.
He said a police-assisted operation was underway to track down the
foreigners, identified as Solomon Udo Eneh and Osuji Chinedu.
The two immigration officers who accompanied the duo had been suspended from
duties, he added.
"A task force has been formed to investigate the incident. We are also
investigating how the two men could get away as the depot and the KLIA are
located at close distance," Mahmood told reporters after opening the National
Registration Department's Innovation Day here Thursday.
The Nigerians were among three detainees scheduled to have been deported
Wednesday. The other detainee, a Palestinian, has been deported.
Mahmood urged those with information on the Nigerians to alert the
authorities to facilitate investigations.
