PRINCE CHARLES CALLS FOR MORE CREATIVITY IN ACCOUNTANCY SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, has
called for more creativity among accountants in developing accountancy systems
needed for the twenty-first century.

"Many people think that accounts and accountancy aren't important. But
information is power, particularly, information about money.

"As accountants, it is your role and responsibility to provide the better
systems and information which are so urgently needed, and to show that acting
for the long-term, and in the best interests of communities and the right
environment, is the right financial approach," said Prince Charles in a recent
video message for the World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) 2010 here.

He added, an increasing number of organisations, including the United
Kingdom government, and international groups EDF Energy, HSBC and Aviva are
adopting Integrated Reporting.

"I am very pleased to say that in August, we launched the International
Integrated Reporting Committee.

"The committee's objective is to instigate the creation of a global system
for accounting for sustainability," he said.

Prince Charles also disclosed he had established an Accounting for
Sustainability Project in 2004 to help provide better and comprehensive
information, and has been working to develop the practical tools and approaches
needed.

"I am extremely heartened that you have all come together to discuss these
vital issues and sustaining value creation, as it is only through this kind of
international collaboration and leadership, that we will achieve the change so
urgently needed," he said.

At the end of his message, he hoped that discussions at the WCOA will be an
important and practical step in addressing the daunting challenges that
confront society.

The WCOA 2010 ended here on Thursday.
