M'SIAN GOVT TO INTENSIFY EFFORTS TO INCULCATE POSITIVE CULTURE AND VALUE AMONG PEOPLE
SIBU (Sarawak, Malaysia), Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The government will intensify
its efforts to inculcate positive culture and values among the people in the
country.
"We want to make these everyone's common heritage, irrespective of their
race, religion or social background," Deputy Information Communication and
Culture Minister Joseph Salang said at a programme to promote art and
culture at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Meluan here last night.
He said among the positive values were the spirit of co-operation, tolerance
and harmony.
In fact, he said each ethnic group had its own positive culture and values
which should be maintained, adopted and practiced.
Salang said all such values were vital for the success of the 1Malaysia
objectives.
"They can be the very foundation to unite all races through social and
friendly interaction.
"Again, in striving for material development, we must not allow our values
and culture elements to erode," he said.
He said if this was allowed to happen, it would be detrimental to the
society.
