UM SIGNS MoU WITH FRANCE CENTRE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- University of Malaya (UM) and the Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique (France National Center for Scientific
Research) Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research
on bacteria.
Prof Dr Mohd Sofian Azirun, the dean of UM's Science Faculty, signed
on behalf of the university while France National Center for Scientific Research
(CNRS) was represented by France ambassador to Malaysia Marc Barety.
Also present to witness the signing of the MoU was UM vice-chancellor Prof
Dr Ghauth Jasmon.
The CNRS is a government-funded research organisation under the
administrative authority of France's Ministry of Research.
The MoU will involve research collaboration between Dr Chan Kok Gan, a
senior Lecturer at UM's Science Faculty and CNRS research adviser Dr Yves
Dessaux.
Earlier, in his speech, Barety said the MoU constituted a perfect example of
scientific cooperation between French and Malaysian scholars.
"This joint research by Dr Chan and Dr Yves is a project that the French
embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the French Republic support completely," he
said.
"The research on bacteria known as quorum sensus is important as it will
produce new findings in medical science," he added.
He also hoped the collaboration between UM and CNRS would be successful.
