NUMBER OF MALAYSIAN STUDENTS IN US INCREASES BY 4.2 PER CENT
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The number of Malaysian students in the United
States in the 2009-2010 period increased by 4.2 per cent to 6,190 from 5,942
previously, an official said.
Malaysian-American Commission on Education Exchange (MACEE) Executive Director
Dr James Coffman attributed the increase to the aggressive promotion by
EducationUSA in Malaysia.
"The strategy, alongside with a more advantageous currency exchange have helped
boost the numbers entering US institutions in the specific period," he said in a
statement released by the embassy here Tuesday.
He said US colleges and universities were very keen on recruiting more Malaysian
students to diversify their international student populations and to attract
high-quality students.
The statistic was given by Open Doors 2010, an annual report on
international academic mobility published by the Institute of International
Education with support from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US
Department of State.
The release of these figures coincided with International Education Week, which
kick-started Monday and jointly organised by MACEE and the US Embassy.
More information on study in the US can be obtained from EducationUSA Malaysia
website at http://www.educationusa.org.my.
