SCHLUMBERGER'S MALAYSIAN HUB TO START PROVIDING FINANCIAL SERVICES NEXT YEAR



PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Schlumberger Ltd, a global
technology and service provider for oil and gas industry, will start providing
services from its Malaysian financial hub to more than 60 countries in the
Eastern Hemisphere next year.

Schlumberger's executive vice president and chief financial officer Simon
Ayat said the new centre would provide financial and accounting services to
Schlumberger businesses in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Europe/Africa
regions.

"Malaysia is very important for Schlumberger and this validates our choice
to be here and to serve the rest of the world," he told reporters after the
opening of the financial hub here Tuesday.

Among the initiatives that will be taken through the financial hub is to
increase the effectiveness of finance teams in their locations and increase
efficiency by consolidating the accounting, analysis and transaction elements of
their services, he said.

According to Ayat, the hub will be a springboard for the company to open
additional similar sized facilities to serve other parts of the world.

About 2,000 Malaysians are currently working with Schlumbeger globally with
1,400 based here.

For the financial hub, almost 200 employees from 19 different nationalities
are working there and the number is expected to increase to 400 next year in
order to train more workers who know about industry and gain abroad
international understanding.

Currently, Schlumberger is employing 105,000 employees of 140 nationalities
and operating in about 80 countries.
