KL MUNICIPAL COUNCIL READY TO FACE FLOOD - MINISTER
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is ready to
face the possibility of floods in the national capital, Federal Territories and
Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said.
He said that DBKL enforcement personnel, assisted by teams from agencies
such as Federal Territory Council, Welfare Department, Fire and Rescue
Department as well as Civil Defence Department, would be deployed
round-the-clock to assist city dwellers in the event of floods.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Lembah Pantai United Malays
National Organisation (Umno) Aidiladha celebration at Madrasah Nurul Huda
(religious school), here Wednesday.
UMNO is Malaysia's largest political party; a founding member of the Barisan
Nasional (National Front) coalition, which has played a dominant role in
Malaysian politics since independence.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts a wet weather throughout
the month and next month which may cause floods.
The last time Kuala Lumpur experienced massive flooding was on Jun 10, 2007
with several areas inundated by about one metre of water.
Among the badly affected areas then were Jalan Masjid India, Jalan Ipoh,
Kampung Baru, Kampung Chubadak, Sentul, Merdeka Square, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan
Ampang, Jalan Dang Wangi and Jalan Kampung Pandan.
