Kudankulam NPP`s first reactor to be ready for commissioning in near

NEW DELHI, November 19 (Itar-Tass) -- The first power unit of the
Kudankulam nuclear power plant, which is constructed with Russia's
technologies in India, will be ready for commissioning in the near future,
Director General of the Russian State-Run Atomic Energy Corporation
Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko said on Friday.
"The construction and assembly activities, as well as tests at the
Kudankulam NPP will be complete shortly. Preparations for the
commissioning of the first power unit have passed into the final stage,"
Kiriyenko said.
In his words, interaction with India over the NPP project is under way
in the well-coordinated regime.
"Both sides are satisfied with the progress in the operations. We
accumulated good experience, which will be used in the construction of new
power units in the future," Kiriyenko said, stressing that the sides plan
to start construction of more nuclear power facilities.
The construction of the Kudankulam NPP in the southern India's state
of Tamil Nadu is under way in compliance with the Russian-Indian
agreements on development of atomic energy cooperation.
Under the documents, all in all six power units will be built in the
State of Tamil Nadu.
This is a unique project that is being constructed by Indian
contractors, while Russia's partners provide expert supervision and supply
major equipment and parts.
