HEAVY MONSOON RAIN EXPECTED TO FALL IN EAST COAST STATES
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The weather is expected to be wet
throughout this month and in December in the northern states of the Peninsular
Malaysia, while heavy monsoon rain marks the east coast states.
In Sabah and Sarawak, there will be two incidences of heavy rainfall from
December to the middle of February.
"Such weather follows the world natural climate pattern influenced by the La
Nina phenomenon which has been forecast to continue until the first quarter of
next year," the Malaysian Meterological Department said in a statement here
Friday.
The statement said the phenomenon would cause the northeast monsoon to start
earlier and become wetter as compared to the norm, with four to five incidences
of heavy rain which is expected to trigger floods.
Currently, however, there is no indication of a second heavy monsoon rain in
the coming week, it said.
"But more rain is expected to fall in the east coast states of Kelantan,
Terengganu and Pahang, beginning Wednesday until next Friday," added the
statement.
