Flood situation improves in five districts

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Aug 6 (BSS)- With the major rivers retreating, the flood situation in five districts of the country improved and may
improve further gradually, Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre
(FFWC) reported today.

It said the flood situation in the districts of Munshiganj,
Manikganj, Faridpur, Madaripur and Shariatpur and Dhaka
district's Dohar and Nawabganj upazilas is likely to improve
gradually.

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna continued to fall though at a slow
pace but is expected to maintain the trend for another two three
days.

The Ganges-Padma too was on a slow retreat and maintained
its falling trend. Reports received by FFWC from Indian
authorities said the Brahmaputra continued its falling trend
upstream in Assam. So did the Ganges, maintaining a steady
falling trend at Farakka.

Among the minors, only the Surma and Kushiyara and Arial
Khan were up their danger level(DL).

Heavy rains during the past few days had pushed the Surma up
at Kanaighat flowing nine cm above its DL after rising by 36cm
today. Similarly, the Kushiyara too was on spate, flowing 61cm
above DL at Amalshid, rising by 23cm today, FFWC sources said.
