Surrender policy has nothing that endangers country

Jammu, Nov 25 (PTI) Rejecting criticism of surrender
policy for youths who had exfiltrated from the north Indian
state of Jammu and Kashmir for arms training in Pakistan
Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, Chief Minister of the state
Omar Abdullah Thursday said it had nothing that will endanger
the country.
"There is nothing in the policy that will pose a
danger to the country," Omar told reporters soon after
inauguration of a university-industry council symposium in
University of Jammu here.
"We have worked a lot on this policy. We have also
taken Centre into confidence. There has been a lot of
discussion over it," Omar said, adding, "We have formulated
this policy along with Home Minister P Chidambaram after
minutely viewing all aspects.
Alleging that some parties were trying to play
politics over the issue, he said, "People would be benefited
from it and no one will lose anything."
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has called for a
three-hour bandh here on Saturday to protest against the
surrender policy, claiming that it will lead to increase in
militancy related incidents despite the various safeguards.
The chief minister, however, said, "There is no
agitation on the issue. You (media) are doing it."
The J-K cabinet on November 22 cleared the surrender
and rehabilitation policy for youths, who had exfiltrated from
the state for arms training in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and
Pakistan between 1989 and 2009 but have given up insurgent
activities due to change of heart and are willing to return to
the state to join the mainstream
