MALAYSIA AND LAOS TO SPEED UP COOPERATION IN INFORMATION AND CULTURE
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Laos have agreed to speed up the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation in the fields of information and culture, at the latest next year.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim said
the MoU must be signed as soon as possible so that cooperation in the fields of broadcasting and culture, particularly involving news exchange, artistes' performance, and photo exhibition could be carried out subsequently.
"Under the MoU, there are information and cultural programmes, so that the people of Laos and Malaysia will have closer cooperation in these two areas.
"We also see an exchange of cultural experts as well as photographers and writers from Laos coming to Kuala Lumpur, and we are planning these programmes, so that there will be closer intra-Asean relations," he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from the Laos Minister of Information and Culture Dr Mounkeo Oraboun, at his office at Angkasapuri, here Thursday.
However, he said the exchange of programmes and experts in the fields of information and culture between the two countries must take into consideration several factors including the high cost.
"So we must choose which are the priorities, and one of them is
documentaries on Laos can be aired by RTM and our documentaries are shown in Laos," he said.
The Department of Broadcasting, Malaysia, DBA Radio Televisyen Malaysia (abbreviated RTM), is a Malaysian state-owned public broadcaster.
Meanwhile, commenting on the probe on the open letter by a former senior police officer, Mat Zain Ibrahim claiming that Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail had a role in the Anwar Ibrahim's 'black eye'
incident about 12 years ago, Rais said he and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Aziz were waiting for Abdul Gani's return from Mecca to seek further clarification on the matter.
