S`PORE FM PAYS LAST RESPECTS TO CHONG EU
GEORGE TOWN, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo Saturday
paid his last respects to the late Dr Lim Chong Eu, and described him as a
"great man" not only for Penang and Malaysia but also Southeast Asia.
Yeo, who represented the government of Singapore, spoke to reporters at the
Dewan Sri Pinang where the remains of Dr Lim will lie in state until the funeral
on Sunday.
Dr Lim, a former Penang chief minister, died on Wednesday at the age of 91
following a stroke he had suffered almost a month earlier.
He leaves a wife, Goh Sing Yeng, two sons Chien Aun and Chien Cheng and two
daughters, Pao Lin and Pao Yen.
Opposition party DAP Chairman Karpal Singh also paid his last respects and
described Dr Lim as having been "very pragmatic and sincere" in politics.
"He was a very serious-looking man but humane also. Not only the people in
Penang will miss him, all will miss him. I'll miss him personally," he said.
