Most road accident victims are young

(KPL) Champasak province had more than 200 cases of road accidents during the first half of this year.
This is an increase of 48 cases, compared to the first half of 2007. Mr Bounsong Chanthavongsak, the chief Traffic Police Officer of Champassak province said last week that 39 people died in road accidents during this period.
The accidents were mainly caused by drivers who drove when they were under the influence of alcohol, speeding and driving without any
driving license and all these show that the problem is difficult to
solve, said the police chief.
Mr Bounsong said he is very concerned that most of the accident victims fall within the age group, 15 to 30 years.
However, he added that the province would be taking a preventive measure and it is organising a campaign to educate the local people on the traffic code and he said he is certain that this will lead to a reduction in road accidents in the future.
Another measure, he explained to the press, is to brainstorm for ideas and so the province would be holding a meeting to review and exchange lessons on the Accident Reduction Project.
"I am inviting the representatives from all the districts in the
province to this meeting," said Mr Bounsong.
