ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED AT ALL STRATA OF SOCIETY

SANDAKAN (Sabah, Malaysia), Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Environmental education should
be enhanced at all strata of society, said state tourism, culture and
environment minister Masidi Manjun.

He said its implementation should be tailor-made for specific target groups to
ensure dissemination of the right message to bring positive changes in their
lives and the environment.

In East Malaysia state of Sabah, Masidi said, a state policy on
environmental education was initiated under the Bornean Biodiversity and Ecosystems
Conservation Programme Phase 1 in 2006, enhanced two years later and approved by the
Sabah Cabinet last year.

"The policy provides guidance to all sectors in Sabah in implementing
environmental education programmes," he said in a speech at the launch of the
2nd Malaysian Environmental Education Conference here Monday.

Masidi's speech was read by assistant minister Bolkiah Ismail.

The minister noted that another milestone in the progress of environmental
education in Sabah was the establishment of the Sabah Environmental Education
Network (Seen) in 2005, comprising 34 organisational members.
