VISA FREE PRIVILEGES TO TAIWANESE STILL UNDER CABINET CONSIDERATION
SERDANG, Malaysia, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The suggestion to give Taiwanese visa-free privileges is still under cabinet consideration, Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen said Monday.
She, however, said that she had no idea when the matter would be resolved as it did not come under her ministry.
"We in the ministry support the visa-free programme. However we also take into consideration the concern of the Foreign Ministry," she said.
"We have presented our view on visa free privileges for Taiwan to the cabinet and the matter is under consideration," she told reporters after opening the Students Tourism Carnival 2010 at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang.
On Oct 8, the Head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Luo
You-Chung, in his speech when celebrating Taiwan's National Day in Kuala Lumpur called on Southeast Asian countries to provide Taiwanese visa-free privileges as a gift on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the Republic of China.
Luo said Taiwan has allowed Malaysians visa-free entry since 2002.
Earlier in her speech, Ng said people visiting tourist destinations in the country could lodge a report if they found any place to be less than clean.
She said they should report rough .1malaysiagreenandclean.com.my to help ensure cleanliness was maintained at all times at these destinations.
Three hundred and twenty students from all over the country are taking part in the four-day carnival aimed at increasing their knowledge on domestic tourism.
