MALCON-ISAF TO AFGHANISTAN FOR MEDICAL AID
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's participation in International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to Afghanistan is to give medical aid, said Defence Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the Malaysian Armed Force's (ATM) presence in Afghanistan was not 'to conspire' with United States as claimed by pro-opposition bloggers.
"We are there on request of the Afghanistan government and not others. Please don't politicise this issue," he said at a contract signing ceremony for ATM football players here Monday.
Also present is Malaysian Army chief, Gen Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, who is also president of ATM Football Association.
He was responding to comments by bloggers that dispatch of the Malaysian Contingent (MALCON) to Afghanistan proved that we were conspiring with United States.
The 30-member MALCON-ISAF II including two doctors left for Afghanistan last month to give medical and humanitarian aid.
Zahid said that he had asked visiting British army chief to get other countries share the cost of MALCON-ISAF II.
"We also want other Islamic countries like Indonesia and Brunei to join our medical team." he added.
