LUFTHANSA TO UTILISE AIRBUS AIRCRAFT FOR WORLD FIRST BIO-FUEL FLIGHT

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- German airlines, Lufthansa, in cooperation
with Airbus, will launch the world's first scheduled commercial passenger flight
running on bio-fuel in the first half of next year.

"We see great opportunities in the use of bio-synthetic kerosene, but we will
gather experience with it in daily practice first," said Lufthansa chief
executive officer Wolfgang Mayrhuber in a statement Tuesday.

The flights will be utilising the Airbus A321 aircraft powered by
International Aero Engines.

"Daily bio-fuel flights are a significant step forward in our pursuit of a
sustainable future for aviation.

"Airbus is bringing together feedstock producers, fuel refiners and
airlines, and with Tuesday's announcement, we have taken yet another step towards
making this real," said Airbus president and chief executive officer Tom Enders.

The daily flights between Hamburg and Frankfurt will be the first in the world
to use a bio-fuel blend made from 50 per cent hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

Flights will begin in April 2011 and will initially continue for a period of six
months as part of the "Burn Fair" project to study the long-term impact of
sustainable bio-fuels on aircraft performance.

The bio-fuel will be provided by Finnish company, Neste Oil, under a long-term
agreement with Lufthansa.

The fuel will be produced from sustainable feedstock sources.
