Lata award function tomorrow, singer yet to confirm presence

Indore, Dec 3 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh government, which has
instituted an award in honour of legendary singer Lata
Mangeshkar, has announced a four-day award function here from
tomorrow without knowing whether the singer herself would
participate in the event or not.
The award was instituted in 1985, in the name of Lata who
was born at a house in Indore's Sikh Mohalla, and handed
alternatively to a playback singer and music director every
year.
The award is into its 25th year but she has never
participated in the event. Nor has she confirmed her
participation for this year's function either.
"Every year the government has extended an invitation to
her to attend the award ceremony, but she has not yet heeded
to the request of her fans from Indore," an official from the
Culture department said.
This year the award will be given to noted music
director Ravi for the year 2008-09 and playback singer
Anuradha Poudwal for 2009-10.
The state government has so far given the award to 24
persons of eminence in the field of playback singing and music
direction including Noushad, Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.
