Lawmakers approve law on general elections
VIENTIANE.15 DEC. (KPL)- Members of the National Assembly yesterday approved a law on general election to the National Assembly.
Seventy-seven members of the National Assembly voted for the law while other seven lawmakers voice their disagreement to the instrument.
“Law on general elections to the National Assembly is a tool necessary for the management of the state, and the socio-economic sector, particularly the organisation of the general election to the National Assembly,” said Head of the Sub-Committee on National Assembly General Election Law, Mr. Douangdy Outthachak.
“Over the last five years, the population has increased and the socio-economic sector has grown hence it is necessary to increase the number of the National Assembly’s members to act as deputies of people,” said Mr. Douangdy.
“Due to the necessity of socio-economic growth and to materialise the political objective of the National Assembly and prepare for the seventh general election to the National Assembly, the amendment of the Law on General Election to the National Assembly is necessary,” said Mr. Douangdy.
