India-Malaysia signs MoU for highway management, dev

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 21 (PTI) Road Transport and Highway
Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday inked a memorandum of
understanding with Malaysia, a world player in constructing
roads, to promote technical assistant services in highway
management and development in India.
The MoU was signed here by Kamal Nath and Malaysian Works
Minister Shaziman bin Abu Mansor in the presence of premier
Najib Razak. The MoU is expected to further enhance
participation of Malaysian engineering and consultancy firms
in the development of national highways in India.
The pact encompasses providing technical assistance
services on highway management, including upgrading Design
Project Report (DPR) procedures, developing procedures for
peer review of tunnel design, toll optimisation studies and
establishing information management procedures for setting up
an Asset Management System for highways and expressways.
It also envisages foreign direct investment from Malaysia
/ Malaysian companies for Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) /
Expressway projects, subject to the approval of the regulatory
authorities of both the countries. PTI
