Charity walk raises 1.7 billion VDN for AO victims

Hanoi (VNA) - More than 1.7 billion USD (100,000 USD) was collected at a charity walk in Ho Chi Minh City on August 10 to support Agent Orange victims.

Close to 10,000 locals joined the event held by the city's Red Cross society
to mark Vietnam 's Day for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (Aug. 11).

Part of the sum will be doled out as regular allowances for 600 victims of
the toxic chemical who have no stable jobs.

As many as 200 1-million-VND scholarships will be granted to children of AO
victims, while 500 others will be provided with between 5-15 million VND to
attend vocational training courses.

The Red Cross also plans to build 100 houses each worth 15 million VND and
give capital for poor families of AO victims to start household
