Mekong delta draws almost 2.8 billion USD in FDI

Hanoi (VNA) - The Mekong delta attracted 57 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects totalling almost 2.8 billion USD in the first seven months of the year, accounting for 6.3 percent of the country's total FDI.

Kien Giang province is taking the lead in FDI with one project, worth
almost 1.65 billion USD. It was followed by Long An province with 44
projects, capitalised at almost 800 million USD in total; and Can Tho City
with four projects, valued at 539.2 million USD.

Other Mekong delta provinces - Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, An Giang,
Soc Trang and Ca Mau - attracted one or two projects with registered capital
of ranging from 0.125-14 million USD.

In July alone, Long An is the only province in the Mekong delta drawing 12
FDI projects with a combined registered capital of more than 216 million
USD, according to the General Statistics Office.

The country attracted record 45.28 billion USD in FDI in the past seven
months, a four-time year-on-year increase.

FDI attraction in the first seven months doubled the figure of 2007 (21.3
billion USD), demonstrating foreign investors' trust in Vietnam's investment
environment, despite the impacts of high inflation and price fluctuations on
foreign investment activities, according to the Ministry of Planning and
Investment's Department of Foreign Investment.-Enditem
