Turkey's Chief EU negotiator in Slovakia
BRATISLAVA (A.A) - Turkey's chief negotiator for talks with the European Union (EU), who is currently paying a formal visit to Slovakia, met with the country's state secretary for foreign affairs in Bratislava on Tuesday.
The meeting between Turkish State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bagis and Slovakia's State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Milan Jezovica took place at the Slovak foreign ministry and lasted more than an hour.
During the gathering, Bagis expressed Turkey's demands from the EU on issues such as "a fair negotiation process, sincere cooperation on fight against terrorism, facilitating visa procedures for Turkish citizens, solution of the Cyprus problem and Turkey's receiving invitation for EU summits".
Jezovica said in his part that both ruling and opposition parties in Slovakia supported Turkey's EU membership bid, adding that Turkey's demands from the union were rightful.
Jezovica also demanded visa exemption for Slovak tourists travelling to Turkey, diplomatic sources said.
After the gathering, Bagis attended a luncheon hosted in his honor by his Slovak counterpart.
Bagis is expected to hold separate talks with Slovakia's Deputy Prime Minister Rudolf Chmel and Foreign Minister Mikulas Dzurinda.
Bagis will also appear at a joint press conference with Dzurinda and deliver a speech at a conference to be attended by Slovak diplomats, politicians and students.
