Turkish energy minister in Finland

HELSINKI (A.A) - 27.01.2011 - Turkish energy minister has called on Finnish companies to invest in Turkey saying, "we can cooperate with Finnish firms in direct energy investments."
Taner Yildiz arrived in Helsinki on Thursday non an official visit.
He first met with Finnish Minister of Foreign Trade & Development Paavo Vayrynen.
Yildiz said at the meeting, "Turkey has recently been passing through a transformation process. Turkey succeeded in reaching a significant economic growth despite the global financial crisis. Also, Turkey has been making many efforts to turn energy advantages in its region into a strategy. Nabucco project is one of them. It aims at transporting natural gas in the Central Asia to consumers in the West. The project will meet 5 percent of the European continent's natural gas demand. The Steering Committee convened in Ankara on January 26 to review the project which is expected to become operational in 2017."
"Turkey held a series of tenders to privatize the electricity distribution companies. We can cooperate with Finnish firms in direct energy investments. For instance, we are planning to make investments to build wind energy power plants in the next four years. Those projects will cost about 20 billion USD. Turkey is also rich of reserves of copper, gold and zinc. If we can unite our reserves with Finnish technology, such a cooperation can yield good results," he said.
Finnish minister said that they wanted to increase Turkey-Finland trade volume.
Vayrynen also extended his country's support to Turkey's European Union membership bid.
Later, Yildiz held talks with Finnish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finence Jyrki Katainen and Minister of Economic Affairs Mauri Pekkarinen.
